Where the making happens
Every batch, every new shape, and the ones that do not survive the mould ~
One batch, setting@the_souvenir_affairSmall batches, and a lot of waiting
The Souvenir Affair began in 2026 with one pot of soy wax and a stubborn idea: that a candle is a memory you can light twice.

How these are made
One jar at a time
The waiting is most of the work ~
Wax goes in at pouring temperature and is not touched again. It has to fall to room temperature on its own, over hours. Rush it and the top sinks, the sides pull away from the glass, and the candle burns badly for the rest of its life. There is no way to hurry this part, which is why a batch is small.
The white bloom
It is how you know it is soy ~
A pale crystal bloom sometimes appears on the surface or against the glass. It is the natural crystal structure of a vegetable wax settling as it cools, and paraffin does not do it. It does not affect the scent, the burn or the life of the candle. We could add hardeners to stop it. We would rather you had the soy.

Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh
The oldest perfume town in India ~
Kannauj has distilled attar for centuries. Our eight oils come from there, and each carries a Hindi name before it carries an English one — नूर, सुकून, गजरा. The name is the point. The translation is only for convenience.
The things people ask
Tell us the room and the hour. सुकून for the last hour before sleep, गजरा when the house is full, महक for the afternoon. At our stall, smell all eight before you decide.
It depends on the vessel, not the wax. Ask us about the specific piece and we will tell you honestly rather than quote a number that suits us.
Premium soy wax, not paraffin. Poured by hand in small batches in Jaipur and Gurugram.

The journey so far
A Chartered Accountant, a pot of soy wax, and a stubborn habit of leaving the workshop to meet the people our candles are for.

Act 1Scratch
That is what the chalkboard at our stall says, and it is the shortest honest account of how this began. By day, numbers. In the evenings, wax, wicks and fragrance oil, one small batch at a time.
We could have sold from a screen and never met anyone. We chose not to. A candle is only half made when it leaves the pot. The other half happens when someone lifts the lid, breathes in, and tells us what it reminds them of.
Act 2The smallest shop in Gurgaon
From the diary · Sector 31, Gurugram

No counter and no walls. Just a cardboard box still open in the boot and the city switching its lights on behind us.
Then the shelf goes up. Jars on two wooden steps. Boxed candles along the back seats. A small bouquet of tulip candles on either side. Fairy lights looped from the lid, and a chalkboard on a tripod, written by hand.
A momo stall glows next door. People walk past, stop because something in the boot is glowing too, and lean in to smell.

Act 3Three days, three nights
From the diary · Sector 66, Gurugram
Morning, day one

It began as cartons. Taped shut, stacked on a bare black cloth, under a canopy that did not have our name on it yet.
Late morning

Then the tape came off. Every piece in those boxes had been poured by hand in the weeks before, and each one came out of its paper like a small reveal.
Afternoon

The small shapes went down first. A bell, a boot, a star, a tree, a feather in a red glass holder. The table was still half empty, and behind it the plaza was still waking up.
Dusk

The lights went up under the canopy, and our name went up with them.
Night

By night everything was out. Lotus urlis in rows, jars under glass bells, reed diffusers on their wooden steps beside the little bear and the sunflower, wax sachets in their little paper windows.
And then, you

This is the part we came for. Children leaned in, nose first. Grown-ups lifted a jar, breathed in, and looked at each other. Somebody always said it reminded them of a place. Eight testers stood in a row, numbered, so nobody had to choose a candle from a description.
Three nights later
87
candles, sachets and diffusers went home with the people who chose them. The busiest hour of all came after ten at night. We packed the rest back into the same cartons, and drove home with everything you told us.

Act 4The stars
The stars were never the stall, or the address, or the number of jars that sold. They are the people who stopped. Every stall ends the same way: the lights come down, the jars go back in their boxes, and we drive home with a notebook full of what you said. The next batch is poured from that notebook.
